Fact or Fiction?

Do you think that potatoes are fattening? Think again!

It is the toppings we add to potatoes that increase the calories! For example, a single tablespoon (15 ml) of butter or margarine has 103 calories. Also, take it easy with the potato chips and french fries, because frying dramatically increases calories!

Still not convinced? A peeled, medium-sized boiled potato has only 144 calories, which is less than a cup (250 ml) of white rice or cooked macaroni, a bagel, pita bread, a store-bought blueberry muffin, or a half cup (125 ml) of Harvest Crunch breakfast cereal! Nutritious and delicious, potatoes are a normal part of a balanced diet.
